PuTTY is a free and open-source terminal emulator, serial console and network file transfer application. It supports several network protocols, including SCP, SSH, Telnet, rlogin, raw socket connection and can connect to a serial port. It is widely used to connect, manage and control servers through the internet securely. PuTTY has these features through a creative process and was written by Simon Tatham in late 1998. At that time, this software was written in C only for Windows operating system and supported Useful internet protocol. The name PuTTY does not have any meaning, officially.
