Question 379 of 1002

You are being overtaken by a truck. What can you do to make the overtaking safe?

Justification

The traffic rules require that the driver being overtaken must facilitate a safe overtaking:

'When a driver intends to overtake on the left, the driver in front shall stay as far to the right as possible and not increase their speed. If the vehicle being overtaken is moving slowly or occupies a great deal of space and the road does not offer an unobstructed view or there is oncoming traffic, its driver shall if necessary pull in to the right and slow down or stop.'

Options
Maintain my speed so I don't contribute to creating a queue behind me
Continue as normal since there is little I can do to make overtaking any safer
Signal to the right when I see that the truck wants to overtake
Position myself well to the right and slow down
