Question 144 of 1002

What is correct about overtaking?

Justification

Overtaking often takes place at high speeds and you need to consider many different factors.

If you become uncertain while overtaking, there is a risk of misjudging the situation and overtaking may therefore be dangerous. It is better then to slow down, signal and pull back in, and hold off overtaking until you feel you can safely pass the other vehicle.

Don't wait until you're only one second behind the vehicle in front, that's too close! As always, you should maintain at least a three-second distance.

Options
Overtaking must be stopped if the driver becomes uncertain
Overtaking must not be done if the car in front maintains a speed of 60 km/h or more
You should first start overtaking when you are one second behind the driver in front
You should avoid stopping in the middle of overtaking after you have changed to the left hand lane
