Question 378 of 1002

What is correct about speed when approaching a level crossing with a white light signal?

Justification

Even if the light is white, you still need to be able to stop at a safe distance from the crossing. Trains often travel at very high speeds and malfunctioning light signals are not unheard of. You should therefore not blindly trust the light signal, but also keep a sufficiently low speed and check to see that there are no trains coming before you cross.

Options
Always no more than a walking pace
Such that you are able to quickly cross without a queue forming behind you
Such that you are able to stop at a safe distance from the crossing
Up to 40 km/h
