Question 156 of 1002

You are going to drive with a trailer in winter conditions. What is correct?

Justification

According to regulations concerning use of motor vehicles, a vehicle must not be used if sufficient grip for the current driving conditions is not ensured. You may therefore not use summer tyres in winter conditions, but other than this there is no requirement that the car and trailer is fitted with the same type of tyres.

This means you are free to use studless tyres on the trailer and studded tyres on the car.

Options
If the car is equipped with studded tyres, studded tyres are also required on the trailer
The trailer is required to be equipped with ABS brakes if the car is equipped with it
Even if the car has studded tyres, you may use non-studded winter tyres on the trailer
It is required to have studded tyres on both the car and the trailer
