Question 936 of 1002

What is correct regarding positioning before this bend?

Justification

The traffic rules only state that the driver should keep well within the lane boundaries (in the picture, the lane is the area between the yellow warning line and the white edge line). You may therefore freely choose your own position within the lane.

In a right-hand bend where visibility is obstructed, it is still advisable to position the car to the left in your lane (i.e. towards the yellow warning line), to get the best possible view ahead and make sure oncoming cars are more likely to see you approaching.

Positioned far to the right = limited visibility in the curve

Positioned far to the right = limited visibility in the curve

Options
Positioning must be as far to the right in the carriageway as possible
Positioning should always be in the middle of one's own lane
Positioning in such a bend does not have a great affect on safety
Positioning on the left side of the lane will provide a better view forward
