The Regulations concerning the use of motor vehicles require that all loads must be secured in such a way that it will not shift or fall off. It should be secured through load locks, straps, dunnage or a combination of these methods. The load securing must: Be able to withstand a force equivalent to the entire weight of the load in the forward direction. Be able to withstand a force equivalent to half the weight of the load to the side and rear. Regarding the other alternatives: According to the Regulations concerning driving licences, category B licence holders are permitted to drive a car with a trailer where the combined maximum authorised mass/maximum permissible weight ('tillatt totalvekt') does not exceed 4250 kg, as long as the trailer has a maximum permissible weight of 750 kg or less. The loading capacity ('nyttelast') is the difference between the maximum permissible weight and the unladen weight of the trailer ('egenvekt'). In this example, the loading capacity is then 750 kg minus 270 kg, which is 480 kg. You are therefore permitted a load of 400 kg on the trailer.
