The sign indicates that the road is a motor vehicle road. Motor vehicle roads are intended for driving at higher speeds, and therefore there are several rules that apply to prevent danger and problems with traffic handling: Properties along the road do not have direct access to the motor vehicle road. Motor vehicle roads are only for vehicles that can drive at speeds of at least 40 km/h. Tractors are permitted on motor vehicle roads as long as they can be driven at speeds of at least 40 km/h. Mopeds are not permitted on motor vehicle roads. In comparison to this, motorways have some additional characteristics such as carriageways for opposite directions of travel being separated by a median strip or central traffic barrier (dual carriageway), and that there are no crossings on the same level; other roads, railways and footpaths cross through tunnels or bridges.
