Question 849 of 1002

When should you normally signal when changing lanes on a motorway?

Justification

When changing lanes, you should signal 5–8 seconds before the lane change.

The purpose of signaling is to inform other road users of what you intend to do, so they can adjust accordingly. By signaling 5–8 seconds in advance, other drivers have time to react.

Options
Minimum 10 seconds before a lane change
As you start to change lanes
5 - 8 seconds before you start to change lanes
I don't have to use signals when changing lanes on the motorway
