The topmost sign warns that you are approaching a level crossing with safeguards. The sign underneath is a distance marker counting down to the level crossing. The distance is divided into 3 parts, with the number of diagonal lines on the sign indicating how far away you are from the crossing. As you can see from the illustration below, three lines means that 3/3 of the distance from the sign to the crossing is left. 
When the speed limit is 60 km/h or lower, the first warning sign should be posted 50-150 metres ahead of the hazard. When the speed limit is 70 km/h or higher, the first warning sign should be posted 150-250 metres ahead of the hazard. |
