Question 491 of 1002

You have hit a moose and cannot move your car. What should you do with the warning triangle?

Justification

I should place a warning triangle by the roadside about 150–250 meters away from the car, either in front or behind, depending on visibility.

After a traffic incident, vehicles that are positioned such that they may pose a danger or obstacle to traffic must be moved immediately to an appropriate location.

In this particular case, it is not possible to move the car and you will need to put out a warning triangle. The triangle should be placed so that it is clearly visible to other road users, and gives them enough time to react accordingly. The NPRA (Statens vegvesen) recommends that the triangle is placed at least 150 meters from the accident site.

Here the warning triangle should be placed a couple of hundred meters down the road to the left, since there is very little visibility through the curve for oncoming traffic

Options
It should always be placed behind, so I place it 150-250 meters behind the car
Place it 150-250 meters in front of or behind the car, depending on the visibility conditions at the location
Nothing
Place it on the roof so that it is clearly visible in both directions
