Question 248 of 1002

How should you position your car if you are turning left at a crossroad?

Justification

When turning left at a crossroad with one lane in each direction, you should position yourself near the middle of the carriageway.

That is, to the left in your own lane. You do this to signal to other road users where you are going. If the lane is wide enough, the traffic behind can pass you, but you will not always be able to give enough space for the following traffic to pass.

Options
Slightly into the oncoming driving lane to allow traffic behind me to pass
In the middle of the lane
Normally as close to the middle of the roadway as possible
Well into the right-hand side of the carriageway
