Question 526 of 1002

What is correct in regard to kinetic energy?

Justification

Kinetic energy is a function of two things: mass (weight) and speed.

Kinetic energy — and braking distance — changes with the square of the change in speed. If you double the speed (e.g. from 20 km/h to 40 km/h), the braking distance will be multiplied by four (2 squared).

Options
The kinetic energy is only dependent on the speed
The kinetic energy has no influence on the damage caused in an accident
The kinetic energy increases with the square of the relative increase in speed
The kinetic energy doubles when the speed is doubled
