If the driver refuses to accept an on-the-spot fine, they will normally get a standard fine. On-the-spot fines are the most common form of penalty for traffic violations. It is usually both imposed and accepted on the spot (the exception being on-the-spot fines based on automatic controls – these will be sent out to you by post). On-the-spot fines do not show up on your criminal record or on a police certificate. If the driver does not accept the on-the-spot fine, the offence will be reported and assessed by a police lawyer, who in most cases decides to impose a standard fine. This assumes, of course, that a violation has in fact occurred. In built-up areas, the default speed limit is 50 km/h, unless otherwise indicated by signs. If you drive 10 km/h over the speed limit, it will usually result in a fine of just over 3000 kroner, but you will keep your license. If you are driving at 60 km/h where the speed limit is 30 km/h, you risk losing your license. |
