Question 719 of 1002

You are driving on a country road and you see some children playing by the side of the road far ahead of you. What should you do?

Justification

In the traffic rules it is stated that a driver must be able to stop within the distance which they can see is clear and before reaching any foreseeable obstruction.

Additionally, there is a special provision stating that drivers are obliged in particular to maintain sufficiently low speed so that they can, if necessary, stop when passing children on or near the road.

You must therefore both reduce your speed and change your position so that you may safely pass the children playing by the road.

Options
As long as the children have seen me, I can maintain my speed, but I keep a distance
If there is traffic behind me, I should maintain my speed and use hazard lights
I should use the horn so the children see that I am coming
I should lower my speed and keep a good distance
