Question 531 of 1002

You come to an accident scene and find an unconscious motorcyclist. What should you do?

Justification

This question informs you that the motorcyclist is unconscious, and the guidelines are therefore clear: The helmet must be removed to open their airways. In a worst-case scenario, it is better to take the risk of a neck injury than them dying.

Since we are frequently asked about this question, here is one of many resources used for questions regarding first aid: http://nmcu.org/files/Foerstehjelp.pdf (In Norwegian)

Options
Put the injured motorcyclist onto their side in the recovery position
Get help to remove the helmet from the motorcyclist to ensure open airways
Place the motorcyclist on their stomach to support the neck
Call an ambulance but do not touch the motorcyclist
