The principal rule for positioning states that on a multilane road, the right-hand lane should be used. When may the left hand lane be used?

Justification

The traffic rules regarding positioning state that: "Insofar as circumstances permit, vehicles shall be driven on the right-hand side of the road. On carriageways with two or more lanes in the same direction, the right-hand lane shall be used when traffic rules do not require or permit use of the left-hand lane(s)."

It is permitted in the traffic rules to use the left-hand lane when overtaking or if necessary for an efficient traffic handling.

The traffic rules require you to use the left-hand lane when making a left turn ahead.

When you drive slower than other traffic
