What do the yellow lines mean?

Justification

It is prohibited to cross the line.

A prohibitory line is a solid, continuous line that separates lanes. Prohibitory lines may divide between lanes of traffic going in the same direction (white lines) or opposite directions (yellow lines).

In the regulations concerning traffic signs it is stated that it is prohibited to drive on, over or to the left of a yellow prohibitory line. This also applies to double yellow prohibitory lines.
